The University of Manchester: 2 Universities merged into 1.

The Integration Team at The University of Manchester had an enormous and challenging task ahead of them 7 years ago. This was to combine the data and business processes of two universities with two completely different sets of administrative systems into a new merged university and at the same time, review and procure a totally new set of university systems.

Any approach the achieve this would have to both ensure the efficient operation of both sets of systems, the sharing of data between them as common business processes were enabled and also the cleasing, formatting and migration of that data to the chosen systems.

The choice to employ Calopus HE to assist to facilitate this operation was taken very seriously by both the Manchester integration team and Calopus Solutions. As you would imagine, Manchester looked very closely at the features of Calopus HE to ensure that an appropriate choice was made. Many database technologies were involved as one of their existing student systems, SITS, was runnning on a SQL*Server database platform.

Since choosing Calopus HE, manchester now has succesfully completed the merger and also feeds into their new PeopleSoft student system implementation. Their usage of the Calopus solution was considerable, with nearly 200 active integration processes running through the Calopus HE framework.

As The University of Manchester is now, by student population, by far the largest University in the UK, The data volumes involved were considerable too. A number of data sources had well over 1 million records to synchronize on a regular basis.
