DW from Ingres to Oracle at The University of Bradford

One of the Calopus HE projects at The University of Bradford involved the migration of their data warehouse from Ingres to Oracle.

The ability to communicate with other SQL based database technologies as well as Oracle and also to support SOAP, COM, LDAP technologies amounst others is key to providing a fully integrated organisation. Calopus HE uses the inbuilt inter-operability features of Oracle to facilitate this requirement. Integration processes can be configured that access and update many technologies at the same time.

For example, source data could be extracted from an Ingres database and then fed to any number of SQL based data stores (including Ingres, Sybase, Oracle, SQL*Server and MS Access) or to a directory service, COM interface, SMTP service or SOAP Web Service. Calopus Solutions believes that the choice of technology employed for any givien interface should be driven by the source and target systems involved, not the integration product. Therefore, a practical approach is allowed that empowers choice and does not force any one single technology. This is why we call Calopus HE a hybrid integration solution.

Bradford was keen to migrate their existing data warehouse and the data feeds that support it to Oracle and Calopus HE was a natural choice for them to achieve this. This is not only due to the hybrid approach or the speed in which a database structure can be created and populated within the Calopus HE framework, but also because of the ability of the Calopus HE to use Enterprise Application Integration features, such as eForms and workflows, to allow secured data access and cleansing processes to be configured.
