Calopus HE - Many systems - One University

Calopus has been proven within the Higher Education sector as a Data Integration tool that can connect together University and FE College systems into a single cohesive operational framework. Our solution, approach and support model have also been compared with most of out competitors and beaten them fairly on whole life costs vs features.

Calopus has worked within the Higher Education sector for over 7 years and knows the needs of the sector well. The solution has also been used to connect together many of the well known industry systems (from Sungard, Oracle Peoplesoft and SITS to name just a few) with the large array of other systems required to operate a University, both Packaged and Home Grown and across many technologies (Oracle, SQL Server, Ingres and Sybase for example).

Calopus has also been proven to be an effective way of enabling Universities to adopt a Service Oriented Architecture by bridging the gap between Legacy Applcations that are not suited to a service oriented approach and either our own Calopus SOA Integration suite or other Service Oriented products such as WebMethods (tm).

When skills and resources are scarce, it is essential that Return on Investment (ROI) is maximized. Calopus can leverage your existing Application Program Interfaces (APIs) and Interface Code and place them into a controlled, audited and documented Integration Environment. This can be an invaluable stepping stone towards the adoption of new Integration Paradyms, such as SOA. An interface configured in Calopus in a SQL Direct approach can be easily switched to a Web Service as the location of Source Data and the format of Target System is already defined within the Calopus Meta Data allowing Web Services to be easily Published and Consumed from already existing Interface Models.

Calopus is a Data Integration Development Environment that uses Meta Data to configure Interfaces, Workflows, Forms Applications, Extranets and Portals. This means that as your business changes, Calopus is uniquely placed to respond to this change through adapting its configurations, rather than through wholesale Re-development of more Application code.

Calopus - Data Integration supporting your business processes

Calopus Hybrid Data Integration ensures that your data flows..at the right Time and with the right Accuracy. Business Processes also start to flow more effectively and are less prone to Process Redundancy and Time Lags with no activity. This is because changes in Process State are quickly identified and routed, reducing costs and noticeably increasing your ability to service your internal and external customers.

We believe that flexibility to changing Business Requirements is key to providing effective IT solutions that can stand up to the tests of time. Calopus takes the approach that business processes should be the key driver for the functionality that IT systems deliver and that a Single Version of Truth is a necessary component of this approach. This Golden Source approach should not only be applied to Reference Data, but also to Business Process Definition and delivery.

There any many ways of Delivering these business processes to the End User and many technologies that may be employed to facilitate this. That is why Calopus Solutions have taken a Hybrid Approach to the task of Data Integration. Unlike some other solutions on the market, Calopus does not try to force any single Approach as the Best Practice for all applications. Direct SQL updates may be perfect for some interfaces, whereas, XML, Web Services or an SOA approach may suit others. You may even choose to keep data where it is and use the EAI features of Calopus to create an Integrated Application approach. Calopus has been designed to employ the Best Fit of these approaches for any given situation.

Calopus - An open window to your enterprise

Our Hybrid Data Integration solution has the ability to allow either Administrators or Business Users to view, Cleanse and Work data as it flows from Source to Target. Calopus is not a Black Box and it's Open Source model can be modified to fit your enterprise, integration flows and methods can be changed and extra stages added using our Plug and Play design.

Portal applications are becoming an essential component of the drive to provide effective customer service. No matter how new or advanced your internal administration systems are, eventually these often Disparate Systems will need to form part of a coherent customer service system. Calopus provides the ability to configure, brand and maintain portals with a diverse range of features such as self-service, eCommerce, online support and product or asset inventories. With the ever increasing expectations of both students and staff, portal applications need to be flexible and have easy access to Corporate Information. Calopus is designed to deliver a cost effective solution to facilitate these needs.

Testimonials

We asked some of our existing clients to explain the benefits that they have enjoyed since adopting Calopus for Higher Education as their primary integration tool. These are a few of the many positive replies we received.

"Calopus, as a data warehouse, allows me as WebCT administrator, to quickly and easily look up data about students and their modules as well as to control the times at which WebCT receives data feeds. This allows me to both verify the integrity of the data and to manage performance loading on the system"
Hannah Walsh
WebCT Administrator
Leeds Metropolitan University

"Calopus is one of those rare products that you only come across once in a while. It does more than it says on the tin for less than you think. For me, with responsibility for the University Managed Learning Environment, Calopus is the glue that holds it all together."
John Heap
Director of Learning Information Systems
Leeds Metropolitan University

"Good value compared with the alternatives: similar cost but less completion risk than an "in-house" solution, less expensive and less "black box" than a wholly proprietary solution."
Ian Casselton
Administrative Computing
Royal Holloway University of London

"Here at Manchester, we had to meet the challenge of combining two sets of University systems with over 1 million records into one coherent framework. Calopus HE has given us a common and controlled way of achieving this, and with the support of Calopus staff, we have made significant progress in a relatively short time."
Wendy Crewe
Interface Management Project Manager
