Report Tuning with Calopus

Recently, we have been working with tuning the standard query statements generated by reporting tools, such as Business Objects, with some quite dramatic results.

When Enterprise reporting tools are allowed to directly access operational database schemas, serious performance issues can often result. The SQL code that is generated by these tools is quite often inappropriate when applied to a busy production application.

We have found that effective tuning of these queries can product dramatic results, for example reductions in execution time from over ten minutes to less that 1 second. Also SQL queries generated can be very resource heavy, causing significant general database performance degradation.
